I workout frequently, and when I do I train hard. I like to talk about these achievements, not as any sort of bragging, but because I am proud of my accomplishments, and love to share with other people what I’m up to. Recently I was sharing about a new personal record (PR) I set with the clean (a movement where a bar with weight is brought quickly up to the shoulders from the ground). The person with whom I was sharing asked me why I did it. They were wondering if I was training for something specific, and what that might be.
I had nothing. There was some confusion about this. If I’m not putting all that effort into something specific, why do it?
There’s nothing in particular I’m training for. CrossFit as a training program works for many different things. People use it for martial arts, police work, military stuff, boxing, and any other sport you can think of. It can improve performance in every walk of life, including helping your buddy move his furniture.
I train to be better. That’s it.
There isn’t any particular meaning to why I do the things I do, except to experience what life has to offer. I train and lift heavy things because it makes me better able to experience all aspects of life. I get adjusted to be better. And really, when I stop to think about it, I try to apply this concept to all aspects of my life.
How can I be a better chiropractor?
How can I be a better father, husband, son, brother, etc?
How can my joy of life be greater?
In what ways am I not fully expressing my gifts and promises as a human being? Because the access to more fully engaging in these gifts is to see where I’m not fully expressing myself.
This concept is also why I get adjusted regularly and spend so much time on my own self care. Getting adjusted is about wellness. And wellness is about allowing for greater expression of the internal light, life force, energy, chi, and spirit so that I can express all of my gifts to the world. For no other reason than because I choose to do so.
Most of the time, I get adjusted for this reason, not because I’m in pain or wish to remove it. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I am in pain! And my first thought is, “I’d better get adjusted.”
But there doesn’t have to be a goal in anything, except that which you set. I would encourage you to look at your own life in this way.
What do you want?
Where are you not fully expressing your marvelous gifts?
I promise you that you are great, and talented, and amazing. How can I help you to express more of you? Chiropractic is an amazing vehicle for transformation. And there are others. You don’t need any other reason or meaning except that which you choose for yourself. You are great. It’s time to let that shine, but it’s up to you.
